Structural bearings are critical elements of structures – most notably bridges – that provide a load-bearing connection between the superstructure and substructure while allowing the required movements.

As the design life of a bearing is lower than that of the overall structure, the replacement of bearings should be considered as a regular maintenance operation for bridges. However, this intervention is not without its challenges: not all bridges are designed for easy maintenance, and they often have not been detailed to allow replacement. The success of the whole operation depends on a smart combination of methods, access and equipment.

In this video that we produced for VSL International / Bouygues Construction, we’ve summarized and simplified the process of bearing replacement
